Application Errors

I wrote up a quick page for MCP Application Errors.  Luckily (so far) there has only been one (fatal) problem reported for MCP recently and there is a pretty simple fix (install Adobe Flash Player and Adobe Shockwave Player).  Hit the link (above) for all of the gory details.

Bug reports...  thankfully there haven't really been any major bugs reported.  If you find one please email me for the quickest resolution.  Also you can report your problems on the MCP Forums.  My follow-ups on the forums are consistent but admittedly a little slower than email.

I hope MCP 0.9.2.0 is working well for everyone!!!

MCP BlackBerry Messenger Group
MCP BlackBerry Messenger Group

Update:  Due to a (IMO) bug in the CMS website system I use you will not see the barcode images in your email (News Updates) or on your device...  instead you will have to visit the MCP website ( http://mcpfx.com ) from your PC.  Even then your device might not pick up the barcodes correctly if you are viewing them on an older CRT monitor, especially if you can see vertical lines flickering on the screen while you are trying to scan them.  I was forced to use my smaller LCD last night when I did all of my testing.  If you are still unable to scan the images you can print them out on paper.  If all else fails manually add me by PIN ( 2438D520 ) to your BlackBerry Messenger Contacts and once I am on your list I will manually invite you to the MCP BlackBerry Messenger Group.

If you are running BlackBerry Messenger 5.0.0.33 or higher you can join the MCP BlackBerry Messenger Group by scanning this barcode:

If you are running BlackBerry Messenger 5.0.0.8 or higher you can add me to your BlackBerry Messenger contacts by scanning this barcode:

MCP Mesh 20091011
Sorry...  I'm trying one last time to see if this stupid CMS works better with IE8.

Before the day gets completely away...  I wanted to let everyone know that I pushed out a new build today (MCP Mesh)...  let me know what you think!

I found the BIN folder was contantly getting obliterated and every time I went to show off MCP it would fsk up.  FIXED!!!

New default engine is Java Loader 5.0.0 Beta 4.

Java Loader > load modules > locate files > cod/jad button now defaults to show cod & jad, can still select cod only, jad only and all files

Java Loader > save modules > retrieve > save > hmm, WTF IS THIS?!? A new dialog? :)  More details later, but I'm sure you'll figure it out.  Ok, f*ck it, a hint...  ALX/JAD.  'Nuff said.  Does it work though?...

Installers sport new graphics.New layouts coming soon, some sanity I think everyone will like.

I have had ZERO time to test all of the new stuff, that's why it's only in MCP Mesh for now.

YOUR THOUGHTS???

Oh yeah...  what about WordPress?

I should post an effin POLL.

Damn, I'm sick of the CMS.  Sorry for the double-post...  news is never ever right on the first try.

I will ask Mr. Kite!

Well technically, it's more like 49 hours!  :)

Donation Promotion:

MCP is "donationware" and normally anyone donating $20.00 (USA) or more gets a personalized registration code for MCP.  For all of September 8th and September 9th until 11:59 PM (US Central) I will give out registration codes for half off:  only $10.00 each!

Notes:

MCP does not have any limitations in the free version.  The registration code will remove the PayPal button from the main window.  Donations have to be posted to PayPal before midnight.

As soon as it hits September 10th, the deal is over!

Also...  I hope everyone had a good Labor Day!

BlackBerry Master Control Program 0.9.2.0 Beta 9b Released!!!

b9about_sm.pngb9settings_sm.png

BlackBerry Master Control Program 0.9.2.0 Beta 9b

Released 9/2/09

There was a bug in the original Beta 9...  Windows Vista and Windows 7 users (32 bit and 64 bit versions were affected equally) had to run MCP using "Windows XP SP3" compatibility mode.

This is now fixed in Beta 9b so go get the update.  After the upgrade, the only place you will see "Beta 9b" is in the main title bar.

If you were using "Windows XP SP3" compatibility mode please turn that off and report your results.

If you already upgraded to Beta 9 your MCP will NOT notify you about this build*.  Please download it again manually to get upgraded.  If you were still running Beta 8 or one of the MCP Mesh builds, you will still see this update when you start MCP*.

* If you have MCP set to check for beta releases.

Changes in Beta 9b:

Full support for RIM Java Loader 5.0.0 Beta 3.

All dialog formatting has been fixed for Windows Vista/7.

For all of the details about this release click HERE.

MCP 20090821 Details
This news post is being done to focus on the changes in Java Loader 5.0.0 Beta 3 (JL5B3).

This page compares Java Loader 5.0.0 Beta 1 (JL5B1) - which was identical to Java Loader 4.7.0 (JL47) final - and JL5B3:

http://www.mcpfx.com/diff/jl500b1b3.htm

So, what changed?

The -u parameter (force USB connection) is no longer listed.  MCP still sends the -u parameter, JL5B3 either simply ignores it or it might still know how to actually use it.  Regardless, it is no longer listed.

The -p parameter now only recognizes USB PIN numbers.  You can no longer specify a serial port with -p.  The -b parameter is gone.  These two effectively kill JL's ability to work with older "serial" (non USB) connections.  If you require this, you have to use JL5B1 or earlier.  It will never work again with JLB3 or higher.

The following commands have been removed in JL5B3 but were still in JL5B1.

nvstore, java_state <file>.  These two functions are available as buttons in MCP on the "Information" page under the "Not Working" section.  They never worked for me anyway, so this won't be a tragic loss.

otasl load <type> file, otasl purge <type>, otasl state <state>.  These three functions are available in MCP on the "Area 51" page in the bottom sections "OTASL Patch FIles" and "OTASL State".  I used OTASL State > Brick one time.  Pretty scary shit.  I know I won't miss these abilities, but other people might need them.

Again, if you need any of the missing stuff, use JL5B1 or older.  MCP will still offer ALL of the controls even for missing items because some users might need backwards compatibility for these items and older JL engines can always be used.

Ok...  so why the hell did RIM pull the JDE 5.0 Beta 2 build?  The site didn't even offer the older Beta 1 build until I emailed them and complained.  Does anyone know?  More importantly...  does ANYONE out there have JavaLoader.exe from Beta 2?  Or does anyone have the full JDE 5.0 Beta 2??  If so, please email me ASAP!

MCP 20090821 Released (Live Mesh Only)
MCP 20090821 has been released (Live Mesh only).  This build is designed for Java Loader 5.0.0 Beta 3 and removes all foreign languages since all of the translators bailed (I haven't heard from them since early March).

JL 5.0 Beta 1's notes were identical to JL 4.7.  JL 5.0 Beta 3 shows some changes:

http://mcpfx.com/diff/jl500b1b3.htm

RIM pulled JL 5.0 Beta 2 without notice.  I've found no major impact with MCP and the features they removed don't seem to matter much, Area 51/52 stuffs.

New Builds...
I posted a new build of MCP (20090726) in the MCP Mesh for everyone that is signed up.

This build fixes one problem that I've seen recently:  The MCP Java Loader page wasn't displaying the Load Modules / Save Modules / Erase Modules icons --- so unless you "knew" where these images were previously it wasn't easy to get to these pages.  You could access them from the tray icon menu and possibly some hotkeys.  This is the only fix in this build.

The MCP project is still active, but a lot has changed here, so releases aren't flowing as frequently.  I had to build a new computer and I've been tinkering with Windows 7 64-bit.  I've been trying for a few weeks to get Delphi 2009 to build MCP inside Windows 7, but no luck yet.  So, for now all builds will remain on my old development system running Windows XP.

Builds over the next few weeks will focus on support for newer versions of JavaLoader.exe, any remaining graphical issues with Vista/7, final bugs (none have been reported to me in almost two months) and a final release of 0.9.2.0.

MCP 20090526 Is Here!
Build (20090526) of MCP has been posted on Live Mesh.

By default on a clean install the "MCP Files" automatic check/update option is unchecked.

If you are getting errors when MCP starts, uncheck this option.

I mentioned previously that this would be fixed, well, it's giving me pure hell.  Grrr!

Anyway, it might not be fixed before beta/final, and truthfully, I'm sick of working on it for hours on end and getting nowhere.

This will be the last development build, Beta 8 is next!

Quick Update...
I just wanted to drop in and offer a quick update.

I took a small break from coding MCP so I could dedicate some time to actually using the program.

I did this in an attempt to narrow down the single remaining problem:  sometimes during startup MCP throws an "access violation" error message.

Today I think I narrowed it down to the automatic checking and updating of the MCP Files.

So, if this problem affects you, go to the MCP Settings page and off to the right side of the "MCP Files" button UNcheck the box.

Restart MCP about 500 times and let me know if you see the error any more.

I'm pretty sure that's the cause and I will get back to coding again this weekend.

MCP Mesh & Other Stuff
Build 20090314 is now available via the MCP Mesh, including a readme specific to this build.

Other stuff...

I've been busy working on MCP but I wanted to drop a quick note.  Make sure you run MCP as an admin or under a Windows user account that is a member of the Administrators group for the local PC.  In other words, if you are on a domain, you don't have to be a domain admin.

Hopefully this will eliminate any problems around the area of OS installations.  I will document this better as I hear back from the MCP test groups.

Thanks!
